COMPARISON · CARD-PROCESSING FEES

Contractor card‑processing fees, compared.

Every app that lets your customers pay by card charges a processing fee. Three things decide what you keep: the rate, whether the app adds its own cut on top, and what you pay each month just to have card payments on. QuoteIron adds 0% to Stripe's standard rate, and Pro is $15.99 a month. Here are the published numbers next to Jobber Payments, Housecall Pro, Joist, Invoice2go, Square and QuickBooks.

THE WORKED EXAMPLE

One $1,000 invoice, paid by card.

Your customer taps the pay link on a QuoteIron invoice and pays with a US card. Here is where the money goes.

  • Your customer pays$1,000.00
  • Stripe's standard fee (2.9% + 30¢)−$29.30
  • QuoteIron's cut$0.00
  • Lands in your Stripe balance$970.70

The same invoice elsewhere, from the rates in the table: Jobber's fee is the same $29.30. Housecall Pro's is $29.90 on a standard card and $34.90 on Amex or a business card. Square Free's is $33.30. Joist's is $35.39, which is $6.09 more than Stripe's standard rate.

Then there's the monthly price just to have card payments on: $15.99 for QuoteIron Pro, against $49 for Jobber Core and $79 for Housecall Pro Basic, month-to-month. On a $250 payment the order changes; that's in where others cost less, below.

From this comparison
OUR SIDE OF IT

We don't skim off the top.

When a customer pays your QuoteIron invoice by card, the payment runs on your own Stripe account. Stripe charges its standard fee, 2.9% + 30¢ for a US card paid online (stripe.com/pricing), and the rest lands in your Stripe balance.

QuoteIron adds nothing. Our platform fee is 0%. We never hold your customer's money, so we can't freeze it or delay it. The only thing QuoteIron charges you is the Pro subscription, $15.99 a month.

If you've negotiated your own rate with Stripe, that's the rate you pay.

Jobber publishes the same 2.9% + 30¢ card rate (getjobber.com/pricing). The difference is the monthly price of the app around it.

THE HONEST PART

Where others cost less.

We'd rather you hear it from us.

  • Free plans. If you only need to take card payments and don't need quotes, QuickBooks' free plan and Square's free plan cost $0 a month.
  • Small tickets. On payments under about $333, a flat 2.99% (Housecall Pro, QuickBooks) costs a few cents less than 2.9% + 30¢: $7.48 against $7.55 on a $250 payment. Invoice2go Professional's 3% does the same under $300.
  • Invoice2go Premium. Its 2.9% has no 30¢ fixed fee, so it's 30¢ less on every payment, but the plan is $44.99 a month.
  • Instant payouts. Jobber, Housecall Pro and Invoice2go charge 1% for instant payouts. Stripe charges 1.5% (Stripe's docs).
STRAIGHT ANSWERS

Questions people ask about card fees.

What are Jobber Payments fees?

Jobber lists 2.9% + 30¢ for credit card payments and 2.7% + 30¢ for Tap to Pay on every plan, and instant payouts cost an additional 1%. The cheapest plan, Core, is $49 a month with no commitment, or $29 a month billed annually. QuoteIron passes through the same 2.9% + 30¢ card rate (Stripe's standard rate), adds 0%, and Pro costs $15.99 a month.

What does Housecall Pro charge for credit card processing?

Housecall Pro lists 2.99% for standard cards paid online through an invoice, 2.59% for cards swiped, tapped or chipped in person, and 3.49% for manually keyed or card-on-file payments and for Amex and business cards. Instapay adds 1%, plus $0.75 on transactions under $75. The Basic plan is $79 a month, or $59 a month billed annually.

Is there a contractor invoice app with no processing fee?

No card payment is free: the card networks and the processor always take a fee. What you can avoid is a second cut on top. QuoteIron's platform fee is 0%, so you pay Stripe's standard rate and nothing more. Cash, check, Zelle, Venmo and the other ways to pay you list on a QuoteIron invoice go straight to you and carry no QuoteIron fee.

Does QuoteIron take a percentage of my payments?

No. Card payments run on your own Stripe account as direct charges, and QuoteIron's platform fee is 0%. Stripe's fee is the only processing fee. QuoteIron makes its money from the Pro subscription ($15.99 a month), not from your jobs.

Do instant payouts cost extra?

Yes, with every provider here. Stripe lists 1.5% (minimum 50¢), Jobber an extra 1%, Housecall Pro 1% plus $0.75 under $75, Invoice2go 1% ($1 minimum), Square 1.95% and QuickBooks 1.75%. Joist says "a small fee" without an amount. Stripe's standard payout schedule is free.

How much does a $5,000 invoice cost to collect by card?

At the published rates (September 2026): $145.30 on QuoteIron and Jobber (2.9% + 30¢), $149.50 on Housecall Pro and QuickBooks Payments (2.99%), $165.30 on Square Free, $174.99 on Joist (3.49% + 49¢). Amex and business cards on Housecall Pro are $174.50.
